COMMEND. I would like to commend seven dynamic gentlemen whose passion in filmmaking is beyond question. At first, they formed I-Image Production to cater to corporate and social events by covering anniversaries, weddings and receptions, birthday parties and other commercial engagements using top-of-the-line cameras and other gadgets. Of course, they also edit what they capture on their cameras and their finished product is always an impressive work of art. Now, these gentlemen are into an added venture–filmmaking.

TELEDRAMA. As their first project, Leo Espina, AJ Aunzo, Jessie Aunzo, Edison Ojerio, Rhoniel Abastas, Romar Maano and Gerardo Llego
have decided to produce a Cebuano teledrama, which is actually a Lenten presentation to be aired over Cebu Catholic Television Network (CCTN) channel 47 on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Black Saturday at exactly 12:30 noon. I gathered that Paraiso ni Adonna, written by Andro Banate, is a true-to-life teledrama, but I’m not at liberty to divulge its synopsis here. I was able to witness its filming in the scenic Silva Resort in Carcar city last week. Fr. Francisco “Paking” Silva was gracious enough to allow the production crew and artists to shoot the teledrama there.4

TEAMWORK. What I witnessed there was teamwork at its best. Tess Diez and Arman Plaza did their jobs as director and assistant director, respectively, with utmost professionalism. Jim Carba and Richard Lisondra were also there as production assistant and crew, respectively. The actors and actresses gave their best and convincing acting so I should give two thumbs up to Bong Gimeno, Janice Montemayor, Christian Tariman, Jona Sahol and Joan Amores. I should also mention topnotch makeup artist and dress designer Jingjing Manching for a splendid task. Hildi Montesclaros, a.k.a. Ate Ging, and this writer have cameo roles in this production.

CHEERS. I should felicitate at least 38 scholars of Pilipinas Una sa Lahat (Punla) Cebu Foundation on their graduation this weekend.

Here’s a rundown: Five are from USJ-R Balamban campus (their graduation ceremony is on Friday), 15 from USJ-R Basak campus (they
will graduate on Saturday) and five from UP, while 13 are Norkis Punla scholars (enrolled in different private schools and universities) whose date and venue of graduation rites have yet to be fixed. Cheers to them all!

FOUNDATION. I’m writing about them here because of one person whose sincere generosity, compassion and passion to help poor but deserving students are beyond question. Industrialist and philanthropist Norberto Quisumbing, Jr. created Punla Foundation based on his belief and principle that education is not a privilege of some, but a basic right of which the poor should not be deprived. The foundation is actually tying up with private secondary schools in Metro Cebu as well as Luzon in a scholarship program that provides four-year tuition assistance. This he started in 1988 so you can just imagine the number of students that have already become professionals in their chosen field.

SHOW. Sports columnist Raffy Uytiepo, a.k.a. Elvisaya (Elvis Presley of the Visayas), is initially discussing the possibility of putting up a variety show in a big mall in General Santos city in May with himself, Hildi Montesclaros, Jun Villahermosa (the Frank Sinatra of Cebu) and the Castro comic duo as the entertainers. From there, Tagbilaran city is the next destination.
