TWELVE boxers will vie in different weight divisions in the Mindanao Professional Boxing Association (Mindproba) championship in Zamboanga City today, February 28.

The ringfest, dubbed as the "Golpe-Golpe de Zamboangueño," starts at 5 p.m. at the Mayor Vitaliano Agan Coliseum.

Rolando Navarro Jr., of the King's promotion, said that for the 10-round main event, Zamboanga's pride Anthony Marcial will go up against Jonil Gadapan of Iligan City in the junior welterweight (140 lbs) division.

Marcial is the former World Boxing Organization (WBO) intercontinental lightweight champion, while Gadapan is the former Mindanao champion and the World Boxing council's (WBC) youth lightweight title holder.

Navarro said a win for Marcial can earn him a chance to regain a WBO ranking.

Another 10-round bout will feature junior flyweights (112 lbs) John Rey Lausa and Jun Sabillina.

Undercard fights feature bantamweights Romeo Duno vs Elmer Colve (eight rounds); super flyweights Conrado Tañamor vs Jerry Baja (four rounds), Angelo Marcial vs Quiven Abtina (four rounds) and Roel Apareces vs Jayson Mopon. (Bong Garcia)
