THOUSANDS of athletes, high school and college students, are participating in this year’s regional Private Schools Athletic Association (Prisaa) in Dipolog City, the capital of Zamboanga del Norte.

Prisaa-Zamboanga Peninsula, which has a total of 14 sports events, reeled off Wednesday and is set to end Sunday.

Prisaa National Executive Director Elbert Atilano said the participating athletic delegations are from Dapitan and Dipolog Cities, Zamboanga del Norte; Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur; Isabela City, Basilan; and, Zamboanga City.

Meanwhile, Atilano has assured that the athletes participating in the five-day sports competition are all physically fit to play in their respective event.

Atilano issued the statement amid questions surrounding the death of a young amateur boxer during an athletic event in Central Luzon in 2013.

The athletes undergo medical examination before they are allowed to join the competition, Atilano said, adding that medical personnel are on standby at the meet.
