Housewife nabbed for extortion

A HOUSEWIFE was arrested in an entrapment operation for trying to extort money from a businesswoman in the municipality of Molave, Zamboanga del Sur.

Police Regional Office (PRO)-Zamboanga Peninsula Information Officer-in-Charge Inspector Dahlan Samuddin identified the arrested suspect as Corazon Balnera, 37, of Bacahan village, Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur.

Samuddin said the entrapment was carried out around 12:40 p.m. Wednesday following complaints filed by businesswoman Luzviminda Calica, 39, and her husband, Reynil, at the Molave Police Station.


Samuddin said the couple reported that they received a text message around August 31 from unidentified person demanding from them P100,000 in exchange for their safety as well as of their family.

The couple’s report prompted the Molave police to set up an entrapment operation that resulted in the arrest of the suspect in an eatery along Roxas Street in Barangay Maloloy-On, Molave, Zamboanga Del Sur, Samuddin said.

Confiscated from the suspect’s possession were the entrapment money worth P20,000 to include the two P500 “marked bill” and one mobile phone, he said.

The suspect is temporarily detained at Molave Police Station locked-up cell while appropriate case for robbery extortion is set to be filed against her.
