A TOTAL of 114 slot machines locally known as "Apple-Apple" and "Kabalyo-Kabalyo" were destroyed in full public view in Zamboanga City.

Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar and Zamboanga City Police Director Angelito Casimiro led the destruction of the slot machines in front of City Hall after Monday's flag raising ceremony.

Casimiro said the slot machines were confiscated in the series of anti-illegal gambling operations conducted from June until August this year.

Casimiro also turned over to the City Treasurer's Office some P3,300 coins confiscated together with the slot machines.

"We will continue and sustain our campaign to stop all forms of illegal gambling," he said.

He said they have so far confiscated and destroyed a total of 249 slot machines since January this year, including the 114 units destroyed Monday.

Destroyed together with the slot machines Monday were expired commemorative plates and military uniforms confiscated from unauthorized individuals. (Bong Garcia)
