Hostage taker in Ipil town charged

THE police have filed criminal charges against a wanted person who was arrested during a recent hostage drama in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, an official said.

Zamboanga Peninsula Police Regional Office Information Officer-in-Charge Dahlan Samuddin identified the respondent of the criminal charges as Elton Guilayan.

Samuddin said among the charges filed before the provincial prosecutor's office against Guilayan include direct assault upon an agent in person of authority, attempted double homicide and damage to property and grave threat.


Samuddin said Guilayan held hostage Lily Verdago, 38, and her daughter, Lyza, 14, late Monday at the bus terminal of Ipil town.

Guilayan is now recuperating at the hospital since he was shot and wounded when the police rescued the hostages.

The suspect turned out to have a standing warrant of arrest for murder issued by the Court in Imelda town, Zamboanga Sibugay. (Bong Garcia)
