A SOLDIER was shot to death by his subordinate inside a military camp in the municipality of Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Thursday.

Police Regional Office (PRO)-Zamboange Peninsula Information Officer-in-Charge Inspector Dahlan Samuddin said the incident took place around 8:27 a.m. Wednesday at the headquarters of the Army's 10th Infantry Battalion's Charlie Company in Barangay Doña Cecilia, Sirawai.

Samuddin identified the fatality as Sergeant Romeo Piedad, of Dao, Pagadian City, who was assigned with the 1st Mechanized Infantry Division.

Piedad was allegedly shot to death by Corporal Greggy Patpat, 31, also assigned with the mechanized division.

The Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco) recovered an M-16 Armalite rifle that was used in the commission of the crime and 21 empty shells of caliber 5.56 ammunition, said Samuddin.

The motive of the incident turned out to be personal grudge, he said.

The suspect voluntarily surrendered to his immediate superior, Lieutenant Chesler Mastino, the commanding officer of the Charlie Company. He was subsequently brought to Sirawai Police Station for further investigation and for proper disposition.
