THE police have filed criminal charges against three persons recently arrested in an entrapment in an east coast village of Zamboanga City.

Zamboanga City Police Director Angelito Casimiro identified the respondents as Eron Fernandez, Aldrin Felix, and Ladienir Sanson, all residents of Sangali village.

Casimiro said charges for extortion and estafa were filed against them before the City Prosecutor's Office.

The three were nabbed in an entrapment operation in the afternoon of August 20 along Estrada Street in Barangay Tetuan.

Casimiro said the Police Station 6 conducted the entrapment operation after Roy Ho, who owns an apartment along Don Alfaro Street in Tetuan, sought police assistance.

Ho reported that the suspects, who claimed to be personnel of the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative, disconnected the electric connection at his apartment last August 17.

The suspects later sent a text message and called Ho demanding P50,000 to reconnect the electric connection at his apartment, thus, the entrapment operation.

Casimiro said the arresting team confiscated from the suspects "marked money," three units of mobile phones, and a motorcycle.

The respondents remained under police custody after they signed a 15-day waiver, Casimiro said. (Bong Garcia)
