DSWD registers 5,640 deportees-A A +A

THE regional office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has exceeded by 758 people in the number of deportees it has served from Malaysia since January this year compared to the entire year of 2013.
Jamila Arasid, head of the DSWD Processing Center for Displaced Persons in Zamboanga City, said they have served 5,640 deportees since January compared to the 4,882 in 2013.
Arasid said that so far, they have spent P7,413,133.40 in assistance to the 5,640 deportees, adding that the assistance includes food, temporary shelter, transportation, medical service, and counseling.
She said upon arrival in Zamboanga City, the deportees are temporarily housed at the processing center in Barangay Mampang.
The deportees are from different places in the country, including Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Bulacan, and from as far as Quezon Province.
Arasid said they usually stay at the center for several days before they could be sent back to their respective places.
She said deportees who are from Zamboanga City were immediately sent home upon arrival and processing at the center.
