2 die in highway collision

TWO people died in a highway collision involving a motorcycle and a car in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police said Saturday.

Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula’s information officer-in-charge Dahlan Samuddin said the incident took place around 9 p.m. Thursday along the highway in the village of San Nicolas, Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte.

Samuddin identified the fatalities as Rogelio Estrella, the driver of the motorcycle, and his back rider, Cresente Ochavo, 51.


Samuddin said Ochavo died on the spot while Estrella was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician at the Piñan District Hospital.

Samuddin said investigation showed the fatalities overshot on a blind curve and collided head-on to the incoming car driven Jelica Saldon while travelling from Dapitan City to Piñan town.

Saldon surrendered to the police in Dapitan City after the incident, Samuddin said.
