THE police have arrested three people in an extortion entrapment in an east coast village of Zamboanga City, the police reported Thursday.

The police identified the arrested suspects as Eron Fernandez, Aldrin Felix, and Ladienir Sanson -- all residents of Barangay Sangali.

The suspects were arrested around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday along Estrada Street in Barangay Tetuan.

The police conducted the entrapment operation after apartment owner Roy Ho told police that the suspects demanded from him P50,000 to reconnect the electric connection at his apartment on Sunday.

The suspects claimed to be personnel of the Zamboanga City Electric Cooperative (Zamcelco), Ho said.

The police confiscated from the suspects four bills of P500 as marked money, three units of mobile phones, and a motorcycle, the police said.

Further investigation showed that Sanson was a former contractual employee of Zamcelco, the police said.

The suspects were detained while appropriate charges are set to be filed against them, the police added. (Bong Garcia)
