JOINT police and military operatives arrested on Wednesday two Abu Sayyaf bandits in two separate places in Zamboanga City, a top police official said on Thursday.

Zamboanga City police director Angelito Casimiro said Edwin Sawaldi was arrested around 6:10 p.m. at the city’s port area, while Jemar Allih was nabbed around 11:15 p.m. at Sitio Tawi-Tawi, Barangay Taluksangay.

Sawaldi has a standing warrant of arrest for kidnapping and serious illegal detention issued by a court in Isabela City, Basilan province, Casimiro said.

Allih has standing warrants of arrest for violation of Republic Act 6593 or the Anti-Carnapping Act of 1972 and attempted murder issued by a court in Zamboanga City, Casimiro added.

The police official said a case for illegal possession of explosive will be filed against Allih after the latter was caught in possession of a fragmentation grenade.

Both suspects are detained at the Zamboanga police headquarters, Casimiro added.
