ZCPO director Senior Superintendent Angelito Casimiro said he will act as the task group commander since he doesn’t have a deputy for operations.
Panes and her husband, Noel, were seized by gunmen clad in camouflage uniforms that entered the victims’ grocery store and pretended to be customers around 7:45 p.m. Monday at Purok 5 in the village of Labuan, 36 kilometers west of this city.
The victims were dragged to the shore, which is less than a hundred meters away from the grocery store, and was forced to board on one of the two waiting motorized boats.
However, Noel managed to escape when responding policemen from Police Station 10 arrived and engaged in a shootout with the gunmen.
The gunmen fled towards the direction of Zamboanga del Norte.
Casimiro said the case remains an abduction citing there was no ransom demand yet from the gunmen, who were believed to be kidnap-for-ransom-group.
