A FARMER was wounded while four other escaped unscathed in a gun attack perpetrated by seven gunmen in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Monday.

Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) Information Officer-in-Charge Inspector Dahlan Samuddin said the incident took place around 8:20 a.m. Sunday in the village of Bulawan, Pagadian City, the capital of Zamboanga del Sur.

Wounded was Julie Benabaye, 39, while unscathed were his brother, Gil, the wife and daughter of Gil, whose identities were not available, and Lilian Alvarod, Gil’s mother-in-law.

Investigation showed the victims were having conversation inside the house of Gil’s in-laws when seven unidentified gunmen arrived, Samuddin said.

He said that Alvarod and Gil’s wife and daughter were able to run for safety before the suspects opened fire.

He said that Gil managed to escape unscathed while Benabaye was hit when they crawled for safety while being fired at by the suspects. The suspects also set off a grenade.

He said several empty shells of a .45 caliber pistol, .9-mm pistol, and of 12-guage shotgun as well as slugs were recovered at the crime scene.

The suspects fled and their identities are the subject of the ongoing investigation over the incident, he added.
