A BUSINESSMAN was killed while five others were unscathed in a gun attack by motorcycle-riding gunmen in the nearby province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Sunday.

Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula (PRO-9) Information Officer-in-Charge Inspector Dahlan Samuddin said the incident took place around 6:10 p.m. Friday in the village of Tigpalay, Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Samuddin identified the fatality as Allan Tarroza, 39, a resident of Putik village, Zamboanga City. The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died on the spot.

Unscathed were Edgar Delos Santos, driver and helpers Cassamiro Barredo Jr., Noliser Napolereyes, Danilo Mendoza, and Floriano Bautista.

Samuddin said investigation showed the victim and his companions were aboard a truck driven by Delos Santos en route to Zamboanga City and they bought coconut lumber at Sitio Limbaguhan in the village of San Vicente, Tungawan.

Samuddin said Tarroza instructed Delos Santos to stop and check after he was informed by his driver the truck’s engine malfunctioned.

One of the suspects approached and repeatedly shot Tarroza after he disembarked from the vehicle while Delos Santos was checking the engine of the truck, Sammudin said.

The suspects fled, leaving Tarroza’s companions terrified but unharmed, Samuddin said.

Investigation continues to establish the motive of the incident and identify the gunmen.
