THE police have filed a case before the Pagadian City Prosecutor’s Office for violation of Republic Act 8485 (Animal Welfare and Act of 1998) against a man for stabbing to death a pet dog of a village official.
Pagadian City police chief Glenn Dulawan said the case for violation of Republic Act 8485 was filed against Candido Acot, a resident of Pedulonan village.
Dulawan said the case was filed Thursday, a day after the Pedulonan Village Chief Gina Gemina lodged a complaint at the police station against Acot.
Gemina recounted to them that Acot, who was drunk at the time of the incident on Tuesday, fatally stabbed the latter’s pet dog named Jeffrey.
Dulawan said Gemina valued the dog sentimentally since it was entrusted to her by her school teacher before giving up a fight against bone cancer few months ago.
He said the dog is a three-year-old cross breed of Japanese Spits and Shih Tzu.
