THE Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) has honored four firemen from the Zamboanga City Fire District (ZCFD) for carrying out their tasks despite the dangers they confronted during the 20-day standoff last year.

The standoff broke out September 9, after hundreds of Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) members loyal to Nur Misuari infiltrated at least five coastal villages in the city.

ZCFD Fire Marshal Superintendent Dominador Zabala Jr. said the awarding was held Saturday during the BFP’s 23rd Founding Anniversary Celebration in Quezon City.

The ZCFD awardees who received “Medalya ng Kadakilaan (Heroism Medal)” were Inspector Joel Karl Blando, Senior Fire Officer 4 (SFO4) Ramon Fernandez, SFO4 Jose Manuel and SFO4 Rommel Carpio.

Meanwhile, Zabala said the BFP celebrated on Monday its anniversary with a mass and bloodletting held at the ZCFD headquarters.

He said the firemen also donated 30 bags of blood to the Philippine Red Cross-Zamboanga City chapter. (Bong Garcia)
