A TOP police official in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) is inclined to believe the Abu Sayyaf bandits behind Monday's ambush in Sulu are hooked on drugs.

Armm Police Director Noel Delos Reyes said no person who is in his right mind and sense will not shoot on a group of people that include women and children.

Delos Reyes said the youngest among the casualties in the ambush is a nine-month-old baby.

"That is why I am inclined to believe they are into drugs," Delos Reyes added.

Twenty-three people were killed while nine others were wounded in an ambush staged by the Abu Sayyaf bandits on Monday in the village of Lower Talipao, Talipao, Sulu.

Delos Reyes said they are saddened the ambush was staged in "one of the holiest moments in Islamic religion."

He said the victims were on the way to the mosque purposely to pray as they are celebrating Eid'l Fitr.

Delos Reyes disclosed that he augment the police force of Talipao town to ensure the maintenance of law and order in the area. (Bong Garcia)
