Gunmen shoot village official

A VILLAGE official was shot and wounded by motorcycle-riding gunmen in the island province of Basilan, the police reported Thursday.

The incident took place around 12:56 p.m. Thursday in the village of Matibay, Lamitan City, the Basilan Police Provincial Office reported.

The police identified the victim as Asmarin Halul, a village councilman of Parangbasak, Lamitan City.


Investigation showed that Halul was driving motorcycle when shot by one of two men riding tandem on another motorcycle that tailed the victim.

Halul was rushed to the Dr. Jose Ma. Torres Hospital for medication, the police said.

Investigation continues in a bid to establish the motive as well as unmask the suspects’ identities, the police said. (Bong Garcia)
