THE police have filed criminal charges against a spurned suitor who tried to kill his neighbor in a west coast village of Zamboanga City, the police reported Tuesday.

Armando Santiago, who was arrested by village officials and watchmen, was charged before the City Prosecutor’s Office for frustrated murder, Zamboanga City police spokesman Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca said.

Santiago, who is courting his neighbor, Adelita Estiban, allegedly stabbed the latter around 6:45 a.m. Friday outside the campus of Cabatangan Elementary School.

Estiban, 48, a teacher, has just alighted from a “habal-habal” when Santiago, who waited for her, allegedly attacked and stabbed her with a screw driver, Huesca said.

Estiban was hit in the face and was admitted at a hospital, Huesca added.

Santiago allegedly got frustrated and mad at the victim who rejected him for several times.

Santiago was subdued and arrested by village officials and watchmen who were at the school premises at the time of the incident.

The suspect is now detained at the local police headquarters, he added.
