THE police have intercepted illegally cut logs in an anti-illegal logging operation in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police said Saturday.

Zamboanga Sibugay police director Senior Superintendent Robert Roy Bahian said the illegally cut logs were intercepted by policemen around 5:55 p.m. Wednesday in the village of Buayan, Kabasalan municipality.

Bahian said the Kabasalan policemen headed by Senior Inspector Jerwin Cagurin proceeded to the village of Buayan following information that illegally cut logs are about to be shipped.

Bahian said Cagurin and his men have intercepted a truck loaded with 28 illegally cut Falcata logs upon arriving in the village of Buayan.

He said the truck was impounded while its driver, Troy Duran, 24, was detained after the latter failed to show pertinent documents involved the transport of the logs.

He said the truck is owned by Teresita Duran of Sanito village, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

A case for violation of Presidential Decree 705 or the Forestry Reform Code of the Philippines is set to be filed against Duran, Bahian said.
