7 nabbed for illegal fishing

THE police have arrested seven fishermen in an anti-illegal fishing operation in the waters off Jose Dalman municipality in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police reported Sunday.

Arrested were the following: Erick Pilongo; Sixto Amba; Gilbert Lapiz; Romeo Binondo; Norito Tabilon; Raymond Pusod; and, Jhon Frey Gapol, all residents of Tigbao village, Sindangan, Zamboanga Del Norte.

Zamboanga del Norte police director Senior Superintendent James Mejia said they were arrested around 10 a.m. Thursday off shore Jose Dalman town.


Mejia said the policemen from Jose Dalman town backed by “bantay dagat” members were conducting seaborne patrol when they chanced upon the fishermen aboard three unregistered motorized bancas and engaged in illegal fishing.

Mejia said they were arrested for violation of Section 16 of the Municipal Ordinance No. 011-200350 otherwise known as the Municipal Fishery Code of Jose Dalman, Zamboanga del Norte.

Confiscated from their possession were three motorized bancas, fishnets and three boxes of fish of different species, Mejia said.
