ZAMBOANGA City Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar has reconstituted the Local Price Monitoring Council (LPMC) to protect consumers against hoarding, profiteering, and cartels of prime commodities and other basic necessities.
Salazar issued Executive Order (EO) BC-61-2014 that reconstituted the LPMC pursuant to Republic Act (RA) 7581 otherwise known as the Price Act.
RA 7581 declared that it is the state policy to ensure the availability of basic necessities and prime commodities at reasonable prices at all times without denying legitimate business a fair return of investment.
Salazar said there is a need to reconstitute the LPMC in view of the changes in the composition of members to properly address concerns that necessitated the creation of the Council.
Based on EO, Salazar sits as the chairperson of the LPMC with the Department of Trade and Industry provincial director as the vice-chairperson.
The members comprise of the regional directors of the Department of Agriculture, Department of Health, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, National Economic Development Authority, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board, City Prosecutor and representatives from the consumer’s, agriculture producers’, manufacturing, retail and trading sectors.
