AN INTELLIGENCE operative has survived an ambush although wounded in an east coast village of Zamboanga City, the police reported Wednesday.

Zamboanga City police officer-in-charge Senior Superintendent Angelito Casimiro identified the victim as Sergeant Hasan Adja, 54, of the Army's 16th Military Intelligence Company based in Camp Enrile, this city.

Casimiro said Adja was ambushed around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sitio Bunkhouse in the village of Taluksangay, 19 kilometers east of this city.

Casimiro said the victim was driving his vehicle on his way home after fetching his wife to the Taluksangay Elementary School when ambushed by an unidentified gunman armed with an Armalite rifle.

The victim lost control of the vehicle's steering wheel and bumped on a house made of light materials, Casimiro said.

He said the victim, despite being wounded, managed to seek assistance to a nearby detachment of the military's Task Force Zamboanga.

He said the troops stationed at the detachment rushed the victim to the hospital.

Investigation continues in a bid to unmask the suspect, he added. (Bong Garcia)
