GOVERNMENT forces have captured two members of the New People’s Army (NPA) following a clash in the hinterlands of Zamboanga del Sur, a military official reported Saturday.
Captured were Wilfredo Dalumos and Edgar Candilansa, who are reportedly members of the NPA operating in the town of Guipos, Zamboanga del Sur.
Army’s First Infantry Division Public Affairs officer-in-charge Captain Franco Suelto said Dalumos and Candilansa were captured Friday afternoon at Sitio Sagpang in the village of Datagan, Guipos town.
Suelto said the clash ensued when the NPAs rebels fired at the troops, who were at that time conducting security patrol.
Suelto said the NPA rebels involved in the clash were believed to be behind the ambush-slay of a soldier from the Army’s 53rd Infantry Battalion last June 14 in the nearby municipality of San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur.
The soldier was on his way back to the detachment coming from a meeting when ambushed by the NPA rebels.
The two captured NPA rebels were turned over to the police and charges are set to be filed against them, Suelto said.
