THE City of Zamboanga is set to host the five-day The Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Centennial Jamboree 2014.

Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said Monday the Centennial Jamboree is set on November 9 to 13.

Salazar said the site of the Centennial Jamboree is at the Zamboanga City Special Economic Zone Authority and Freeport (Zamboecozone) in the village of Talisayan, 26 kilometers west of the city.

“Zamboanga will be playing an important role as the city will host the Philippines Scouting Centennial Jamboree from November 9 to 13,” Salazar said in a press conference.

BSP-Zamboanga City Scout Executive Arthur Griño said at least 5,000 scouts from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao are expected to join the centennial jamboree.

Griño said that Vice-President Jejomar Binay, who is the BSP national president, will grace jamboree.

Salazar said the holding of the Centennial Jamboree is historical since Scouting started in the country by the Lorillard Spencer Troops composed of Moslem boys in 1914 in the village of Recodo, this city.
