Police intercept smuggled garlic shipment

POLICE authorities have intercepted a multicab vehicle loaded with suspected smuggled garlic in Zamboanga City.

Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO) Spokesman Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca said the confiscation was made around 1:40 p.m. Thursday along Suterville Road in the village of San Jose Gusu, west of this city.

Huesca said the policemen led by Senior Inspector Jade Mandi were on roving patrol when they chanced upon the multicab loaded with garlic.


Huesca said they confiscated the cargo comprising of 15 sacks of garlic as the multicab driver, Omar Iddisin, failed to show purchase order of the goods.

The confiscated garlic were deposited at the headquarters of the Police Station 11 for proper disposition, Huesca said.

Authorities in Manila are initiating measures to prevent hoarding of garlic as its price has skyrocketed to as much as P250 per kilo. (Bong Garcia)
