Watchman dies in gun attack

A VILLAGE watchman was killed in a gun attack in a remote village in Zamboanga del Sur province, the police reported Monday.

Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Police Office Spokesman Joseph Ortega said that Donald Gantonoc was shot dead around 7 p.m. Saturday in the village of Bulawan, Lapuyan, Zamboanga del Sur.

Initial investigation showed Gantonoc, drunk and armed with a hunting knife, threatened his mother.


Ortega said shots rang out and Gantonoc fell dead on the ground.

He said the three spent shells of caliber .45 pistol were recovered at the crime scene.

Police are conducting follow-up investigation to identify the gunman, Ortega added. (Bong Garcia)
