ZAMBAONGA City's United Nations partners are unceasing in their commitment to assist the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the evacuation centers and those housed at the transitory sites, a top official said.

Several families were displaced after the siege in September 9, 2013, when hundreds of the so-called Misuari faction of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) infiltrated Zamboanga City.

Mayor Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar said the World Food Programme (WFP) will resume the food-for-work program and each IDP will receive a sack of rice for a week's work.

Salazar said the 18,000 bags of rice at 50 kilos each have already been shipped to the city for the renewed food-for-work program.

It will run for three months from May to July, this year. Every month, a total of 6,000 IDPs are expected to benefit from the program.

The WFP is being assisted by the City Agriculturist Office in assigning the IDPs to various work activities, ranging from mangrove planting to cleaning their surroundings at the transitory sites.

Salazar also announced that the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) will continue to help the internally displaced children who will be returning to schools during the opening of classes in next month.

She said the UNICEF is set to deliver on Monday, May 26, at least 1,200 educational packs for elementary school pupils, 1,250 packs for high school students and 20 ECCD huge kits for daycare centers and kindergarten schools for communal use and 19 special education manipulative toy kits.

The distribution of educational materials will be coursed through the City Schools Division Office of the Department of Education.
