A MILITIAMAN was stabbed and killed while trying to pacify a fist fight involving his brother in an east coast village of this city, the police reported Monday.

The Police Station 3 reported that the incident took place around 2 p.m. Saturday at Sitio Mangga in the village of Bungiao, east of the city.

The police identified the fatality as Gani Sampuyung, 38, a militiaman assigned in the village of Dita, also east of the city.

Sampuyung was allegedly stabbed and killed by Fernando Sta. Maria, a resident of Sitio Licopon in the village of Bolong.

Investigation showed that prior to the incident Sampuyung and his younger brother, Randy, were having drinking spree while attending a death anniversary at the residence of Orlando Francisco.

The police said that Randy engaged in a fist fight with Sta. Maria following a heated argument prompting the victim to pacify them.

The suspect, who turned his ire on the elder Sampuyung, pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed the victim, the police said.

The victim was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician, the police said.

The suspect fled on foot and is the subject of a manhunt operation, the police said. (Bong Garcia)
