DEPARTMENT of Science and Technology Regional Director Brenda Nazareth-Manzano announced that the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 9001:2008 Certification of the Dost-Zamboanga Peninsula has been successfully renewed.
Manzano said the ISO certification, which is valid until February 2, 2017, was issued by the Certification International Philippines, Incorporated (CIPI), an internationally renowned ISO certifying body.
Manzano said the certification stated that Dost operates a Quality Management System (QMS) conforming to the ISO 9001:2008.
The Dost's business processes such as the following: Provision of Technology Transfer Services; Science Promotion; Science and Technology (S&T) Information Dissemination; and, S&T Scholarships are well covered by the recertification.
Manzano said the ISO 9001:2008 specifies requirements for a QMS where an organization needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements.
Manzano said the certificate aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of the system, including processes for continual improvement.
The ISO certification renewal is not an outright privilege as it requires an annual surveillance audit and a more thorough reassessment audit every three years, to ensure that Dost QMS compliance is consistent.
Manzano said the annual a two day reassessment and surveillance audit was conducted for two-day in January this year.
Manzano said the Dost is expected to deliver quality S&T services to its customers following the renewal of the ISO certification.
The Dost, which received its first ISO certification on January 22, 2008, is the first DOST regional office in the Philippines to implement a QMS that conforms to international standards.
