THE Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Zamboanga Peninsula (BFAR-9) has installed a fisherman from Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, as the new Fisherfolk Regional Director.
BFAR-9 Administrative and Finance chief Abdulkadil Manik said that Vicente Batobalunos was installed in a simple ceremony held Monday at the provincial capitol of Zamboanga Sibugay.
Batobalunos will serve as the fisherfolk regional director for the entire month of May in line with the Department of Agriculture Special Order No. 88, series of 2005.
Manik said the installation of Batobalunos is in line with the celebration of the 10th Farmers and Fisherfolk’s Month.
Batobalunos, as the fisherfolk regional director, will visit BFAR projects and he will conduct activities for the fisherfolk in the region.
Manik said the month of May every year is declared as the Farmers and Fisherfolk’s Month aimed to give due recognition to farmers and fisherfolk highlighting their role as active partners of government in national building.
This year’s celebration is anchored on the theme: “Mangingisdang director para sa matatag na balikatan.”
The regional fisherfolk director is chosen by their fisherfolk constituents through the national and regional fisherfolk assembly. (Bong Garcia)
