15 Zamboanga schools to hike tuition-A A +A

FIFTEEN schools in Zamboanga Peninsula region is set to implement a 4.3-percent tuition increase for school year 2014-2015.
The Commission on Higher Education (Ched) has granted the request of the 15 schools for a tuition increase after all of the needed requirements have been complied.
Ched Regional Director Juanito Demetrio said that seven of the 15 HEIs are located in Zamboanga City while the remaining eight are situation in the different parts of the region.
The seven schools that are based in Zamboanga City are the following: Ateneo de Zamboanga University; Brent Hospital and Colleges Inc.; Immaculate Conception Archdiocesan School; MEIN College; Southern City Colleges; Universidad de Zamboanga; and, Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology.
The other eight schools are Andres Bonifacio College, DMC College Foundation Inc., and Rizal Memorial Institute of Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte; Pagadian Capitol College, Saint Columban College, and Saint Vincent’s College, Zamboanga del Sur; Claret College of Isabela, Isabela City, Basilan; and, Marian College, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Demetrio said the tuition increase of 4.3 percent is based on the inflation rate of the region.
Demetrio said that 70 percent of the tuition increase will be spent for the salary of the teachers, 20 percent to upgrade the school facilities like laboratory, and the remaining 10 percent is for return of investment. (Bong Garcia)
