THE Sea-Based Anti-Trafficking Task Force (SBATTF) arrested Monday an illegal recruiter teacher and rescued two victims of human trafficking in Zamboanga City, the police said.
Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula (PRO-9) spokesman Senior Inspector Joseph Ortega identified the suspect as Erlinda Capitan, a teacher from Iligan City.
Ortega said the rescued victims, who were residents of Manticao, Misamis Oriental, were turned over to the custody of the Visayan Forum Foundation (VFF).
Ortega said the suspect was arrested at the Terminal 1 of the port of Zamboanga.
Ortega said the suspect’s arrest came after the task force received a report about her presence at the passenger terminal together with the two victims.
He said the suspect recruited the victims to work in Sabah as domestic helpers with a starting salary of P12,000 monthly.
He said the victims will be working at a house of Chinese nationals upon reaching Sabah.
He said the suspect has facilitated and paid all the travel expenses of the two victims from Misamis Oriental to Sabah via Zamboanga City.
The suspect was placed under the custody of National Bureau of Investigation while appropriate charges are being readied to be filed in court against her, Ortega said.
