5 farmers hurt in gun attack

FIVE farmers were wounded when gunmen attacked a coconut farm in the province of Zamboanga del Norte, the police said Saturday.

The Zamboanga del Norte Police Office said the incident took place around 8:40 a.m. Thursday in the village of Santa Cruz, Dapitan City.

The police identified the victims as follows: Nelson Dalaguan, 45; Roger Catacutan, 37; Allan Dumasig, 52; Eddie Magundaya, 46; and, Samuel Malabago, 30.


The victims were wounded in a gun attack perpetrated by a group of gunmen three of whom were identified as Rodrigo Andile, Salia Andile, and Lorenzo Lasing, the police said.

Investigation showed the victims were harvesting coconuts at the farm land of Herminio Acaylar when the suspects arrived and without any apparent reason shot them, the police said.

The suspects fled and are now the subject of a manhunt operation, the police said.

The victims were admitted at the hospital, the police added.
