JOINT police and military operatives have arrested an Abu Sayyaf bandit, who was involved in previous kidnappings, in Zamboanga City on Wednesday.

Zamboanga City police officer-in-charge Senior Superintendent Angelito Casimiro identified the arrested Abu Sayyaf member as Abu Darren.

Darren was arrested around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the seaside of Baliwasan, west of the city, Casimiro said.

Casimiro said Darren is facing a criminal case for murder before a Court in Panabo City, Davao del Norte and a corresponding warrant of arrest has also been issued.

He said the arrested suspect has been identified by a government witness as involved in the kidnapping of 21 people in April of 2000.

He said the suspect is believed to be scouting for probable targets to be kidnapped when he was arrested by the joint police and military operatives.

Meanwhile, Casimiro has ordered his personnel to strengthen security in Zamboanga City. (Bong Garcia)
