PMA Class 2017 arrives in Zambo

THE Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Salaknib” Class 2017 cadets are in Zamboanga City as part of the academy’s Southern Cruise for 2014.

“Salaknib” stands for Sanggalang ay Lakas at Buhay na Alay Para sa Inang Bayan. It is an Ilocano term that means shield.

They arrived Sunday aboard a Navy boat and will stay until Wednesday for a series of activities that include the holding of silent drills.


On Monday morning, PMA Assistant Superintendent Brigadier General Andrei Costales and other PMA staff, as well as, the 195 cadets comprising the “Salaknib” Class 2017 have joined the City Government employees in the flag raising ceremony in front of City Hall.

Four, three males and a female, of the 195 cadets are from the city. Of the total number, 70 are females and 125 are males.

Costales said the Southern Cruise is part of the effort of the PMA to expand the recruitment to join the premier military academy.

Costales said that the cruise would serve as community immersion on the part of the cadets, who are expected to learn about the diverse culture of the Zamboangueños.

The “Salaknib” Class 2017 conducted silent drill at 5 p.m. Monday at the scenic Paseo de Mar.

Other schedules of the silent drills are: April, 22, Naval Forces Western Mindanao headquarters; and, April 23, Western Mindanao Command headquarters.
