A BUSINESSMAN lost some P500,000-worth of goods when his truck-load of used clothing known as “ukay-ukay” caught fire in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Friday.

Police Regional Office-Zamboanga Peninsula (PRO-9) spokesman Senior Inspector Joseph Ortega said the fire incident occurred around 2 a.m. Wednesday in the village of Timbang-Timbang, Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Prior to the incident, Ortega said the businessman, Danny Oming, was driving his truck loaded with “ukay-ukay” en route to the municipality of Imelda coming from Alicia when the vehicle encountered “automotive wirings and mechanical trouble.”

Ortega said Oming went home to get tools but his vehicle and cargo was already burned into ashes upon his return.

The fire was believed to have been caused by defective wirings, Ortega said. (Bong Garcia)
