THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) will release soon at least 5,000 new plate numbers for motor vehicles nationwide, an LTO official announced.

LTO Regional Director Aminola Abaton said the priority in the distribution of the new plate numbers are owners of newly-acquired vehicles.

Abaton said they will not issue the new plate numbers to owners of vehicles with expiring registration although they will renew their registration.

Abaton said they are still waiting for the directive from the LTO-central office as to when they would start the issuance of the new plate numbers to units with expiring registration.

Abaton said there will be an assessment of renewal units or renewed motorvehicle registration “because they still have existing plate numbers.”

He said the new plate number has security features that are tamper proof.

He said the new plate number has also different bar codes for Public Utility Jeepney (PUJ) and for private-owned vehicles. However, Abaton said they have yet to determine how many new plate numbers that will be released for issuance here in the region.
