A BUSINESSWOMAN was duped of P43,000 in cash and other valuables to a group of conmen locally known as “budol-budol” gang in the province of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police reported Sunday.

Duped of cash and valuables was Anabelle Magallanes, 31, of Purok Gemelina in the village of Sanito, Ipil, the capital town of Zamboanga Sibugay, the police said.

Investigation showed that Magallanes was befriended by an unidentified woman who asked her if she knows where to hire trucking services while she was walking around 8:45 a.m. Friday along Quirino Street in the village of Don Andres, Ipil town.

The woman told Magallanes that she needs a trucking service to transport 1,200 sacks of rice coming from Zamboanga City to Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

A van colored maroon with two men aboard arrived a few minutes later while they were still having a conversation.

The woman then invited Magallanes for a ride and brought her in front of Uling roaster establishment located in the village of Lower Taway, Ipil.

The victim, accompanied by the suspects, went to a bank and withdrew P40,000 after the woman showed her a bundle of money amounting to P100,000 placed inside a small bag and convinced her to withdraw her money.

The woman told the victim to put into the small bag the P40,000 withdrawn from the bank and the P3,000 she was bringing along with her jewelry and mobile phone.

The group then told her disembarked from the vehicle while the unidentified woman gave her a paper bag and told her that the P100, 000 was inside.

The victim immediately went home and when she checked the content of the paper bag turned out to pieces of paper and a half kilo sugar.

Investigation continues in a bid to unmask the suspects’ identities and to arrest them, the police said.
