MAYOR Ma. Isabelle Climaco-Salazar is bent on filing cases against the owners of structures like fish cages cum fishpond constructed in the middle of the riverbeds in the village of Zambowood, east of Zamboanga City.
Salazar has ordered the City Legal Office to study the possibility of filing cases against the owners of the structures after she led Tuesday a group of City Government officials in an inspection of rip-rap projects on riverbanks from the village of Tugbungan up to Zambowood.
“We intend together with the City Engineer’s Office, the City Legal Office and the City Planning Office to come up with legal measures to clear the river of any and all obstructions,” Salazar said.
Salazar said that one measure is through the passage of an ordinance that will prohibit the construction of all types of structures on riverbeds and remove the existing ones.
Another measure is for the City Engineer’s Office to immediately repair dilapidated rip-raps using the emergency funds of the city government, Salazar said.
Salazar, during the inspection, has discovered that some of the rip-raps had already collapsed while at least two hanging bridges were found to be already defective. (Bong Garcia)
