9 arrested for illegal fishing

GOVERNMENT authorities have arrested nine fishermen, including three minors, for illegally fishing in the waters of Zamboanga Sibugay province, the police reported Thursday.

The arrest was made around 1 p.m. Tuesday in the waters of Pandan-Pandan in the Municipality of Alicia, Zamboanga Sibugay, the police said.

The police identified six of the arrested fishermen namely: Alexander Bacalla; Enelicito Tejada; Eduardo Danag; Nelvin Alejandro; Rolando Delos Santos; and Joel Alimano. The identities of the minors were withheld.


The police said that the combined policemen and Fishery Law Enforcement Team (FLET) were conducting seaborne patrol when they chanced upon the group of fishermen engaged in illegal fishing.

The arresting team has confiscated from the possessions of the fishermen three motorized bancas, six fishing nets with five nylon ropes, the police said. (Bong Garcia)
