THE police have arrested the alleged gunman behind the killing of a policeman and a “civilian asset” in a west coast village of Zamboanga City, the police reported.
Daris Idris, 52, was arrested by the elements of the Zamboanga City Public Safety Company (ZCPSC) headed by Chief Inspector Ariel Huesca.
Huesca said Idris was arrested around 11 a.m. Monday at Zone 3 in the village of Cawit, west of this city.
Idris was arrested in a follow-up operation following receipt of information on the ambush slay of Police Officer 1 (PO1) Marcel Tuballa of ZCPSC and Richard Buenaventura, a civilian asset, Huesca said.
Tuballa was driving a motorcycle with Buenaventura as his passenger when shot by one of two men riding in tandem on another motorcycle around 7:40 p.m. Saturday in the village of San Jose Gusu, west of the city.
Huesca said the arresting team confiscated from Idris’s possession a .38 caliber revolver with six ammunitions.
Zamboanga City police officer-in-charge Senior Superintendent Angelito Casimiro said Tuesday that they have filed charges for illegal possession of firearms against Idris before the City Prosecutor’s Office.
The investigation division is still collating testimonies and evidences against Idris in connection with the gun slay of Tuballa and Buenaventura, Casimiro said. (Bong Garcia)
