Village official killed in ambush

A VILLAGE official was killed in an ambush in the province of Zamboanga del Sur, the police reported Monday.

The Zamboanga del Sur Police Office (ZDSPO) reported that the incident took place around 5:40 p.m. Sunday at Purok Salingsing in the village of Balintawak, Pagadian City, the province’s capital.

The police identified the slain official as Jhonny Boy Ligan, 24, a councilman of the village of Ocapan, San Miguel, Zamboanga del Sur.


Investigation showed that the victim was driving his motorcycle going to Pagadian City coming from San Miguel town when shot by an unidentified gunman, the police said.

The victim sustained three gunshot wounds fired from a caliber .45 pistol and died on the spot.

Investigation continues in a bid to establish the motive of the incident as well as the identity of the suspect, the police said.
