THE Zamboanga City Water District (ZCWD), the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the City Government are conducting an inventory of fire hydrants in Zamboanga City to check how many of the hydrants are functioning.

ZCWD Assistant General Manager for Operations Alejo Rojas Jr. said the inventory is aimed to determine how many of the fire hydrants that are still working and how many are needed to be repaired and upgraded.

Rojas said the inventory aimed to show the firemen and the personnel from the City General Service Office (CGSO) on how to use the hydrants following complaints that the fire hydrants of ZCWD are not functioning.

Rojas said he noticed that some of the fire hydrants have double valve (one on top and another below), which is why there is no water that comes out when the valve on top is opened.

“The purpose of the double valve is to prevent water pilferage by unscrupulous people,” he added.

He said they will produce the complete list, including the location of the fire hydrants, to guide the firemen where to extract water during fire incidents.
