WESTERN Mindanao Command (Westmincom) chief Lieutenant General Rustico Guerrero has ordered his troops to search in all possible areas where the Chinese tourist and a Filipino hotel staff might have been brought by the Abu Sayyaf bandits.

Guerrero’s order came after the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) confirmed Friday that the Abu Sayyaf Group was the one responsible in the abduction of the two victims from a resort in Sabah, Malaysia.

Reports said that the Filipino hotel staff was identified as Marcelita Dayawan and the female Chinese tourist as Gao Huayun. [Read the related story here.]

Westmincom information officer Captain Maria Rowena Muyuela said the troops are conducting the search on the possible hideouts of the Abu Sayyaf bandits in the provinces of Basilan, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi.

Muyuela said the search is being conducted in coordination with the police forces based on the three provinces.

Muyuela said that the Naval Task Force 62 of the Naval Forces Western Mindanao (NFWM) is also conducting extensive search and naval blockade to suspected sea crafts.

The troops under the Westmincom area have been placed on alert since Thursday, Muyuela said.
