Friday, April 4, 2014
THE Commission on Higher Education (Ched) has named a new regional director.
Dr. Juanito Demetrio, who was formerly assigned in Zamboanga Peninsula based in Cagayan de Oro City, has replaced Dr. Emmylou Yanga after he was named as the new Ched regional director.
Yanga was reassigned as the new CHED regional director in Region 4-A known as Calabarzon.
Demetrio said the reshuffle came after several Ched officials and personnel have recently retired from the service.
Demetrio said the regional directors are being transferred to another region once they reached two years in their present post.
Demetrio said he will visit all the higher learning institutions in the region to determine what innovations could be undertaken.
There are dozens of higher education institutions in the region 17 of which are located in this city.
He said, in the meantime, he will continue the programs of his predecessor describing that CHED-Zamboanga Peninsula is one of the best performing region.
Included in his plans is to provide more scholarship opportunities to poor but deserving students and to produce quality graduates.
He said that another thing to ensure is that all the higher education institutions meet the required standards from teachers to laboratories and others. (Bong Garcia)
