THE Philippine Army through 102nd Infantry Brigade is set to sponsor free surgical operations for children with cleft lip and palate deformities in Zamboanga Sibugay.
Army 102nd Infantry Brigade Civil-Military Operations (CMO) chief Captain Marcel Jumawan said the project is a joint undertaking of the command and the Marhalika Charity Foundation.
Jumawan said the surgery will be held in one of the hospitals in Ipil, the capital of Zamboanga Sibugay province although they have yet to finalize the schedule and venue.
Jumawan said they are targeting to conduct surgery in at least 30 children aged one-year-old and above.
So far, Jumawan said they have already identified 28 children-patients. However, he said they will accommodate all of the patients should the number of children who wanted to avail the free surgical service will exceed 30.
He said the project is part of the command's humanitarian mission to the community, in this case the town of Ipil in Zamboanga Sibugay. (Bong Garcia)
