Drunken man drowns

A DRUNKEN man drowned while trying to swim home from an island to the mainland Pagadian City, the capital of Zamboanga del Sur, the police said.

The Pagadian City police identified the victim as Arnold Vertida, a resident of Purok Silao in the village of Dumagoc.

The police said that Vertida drowned around 6 p.m. Sunday and his body was found at Purok Kahayag in the village of Dumagoc, Pagadian City.


Investigation showed that before the incident, Vertida and a companion identified as Eric Marson were having a drinking spree at Dao-Dao Island.

The police said Vertida swam going to Barangay Dumagoc, where he resides, but unfortunately drowned as he was about half kilometer from Dao-Dao Island.

Vertida’s body was recovered few minutes later, the police said.
