THE construction of the first phase of the P300-million sanitary landfill project has been completed and is now ready for use, said City Engineer Luis Vicente Despalo.
He said the Phase 1 of the sanitary landfill composed of cell number one that has an area of two hectares.
Despalo said they are only waiting for the official turnover of the project to enable the City Government to start using the solid waste facility.
The sanitary landfill is located in the village of Salaan, 15 kilometers east of Zamboanga City.
The sanitary landfill has a total area of 10.6 hectares and will consist of four cells, which can accommodate this city’s solid waste disposal for a 10-year period.
Despalo said the first phase of the sanitary landfill comes in two contracts worth P75 million.
The first contract worth P65 million involved the construction of the first cell, lining facility, leachate collection and treatment facility, said Despalo.
He added that the second contract worth P10 million is for site development to include administration building, roads, fence, and drainage system.
He said the first cell would be filled up in three years time, providing sufficient time for the construction of the second cell.
